I'm sure there's going to be a lot more going away in the not too distant future.

I like how the last line of the article says to the effect that as consumers we are better off but not as workers. Really? When there is no one left in America to buy those cheap Chinese screwdrivers how will they be better off? There has always been a certain market for top quality tools and it is still there. Heck, even the Chinese will make tools as good as you want, you have to spec it. Unfortunately most companies are looking competing with Walmart sales aisles, not tradesmen.
I don't know if Ideal is making their stuff here or in China land but from what I have seen their screwdrivers were not spec'd as well as the rubber handled Klein's. I think from the looks of them most all the better brands were made by Pratt Read anyway. I hope Ideal doesn't ruin them. After all, we have the glowing example of when Milwaukee Tools was sold to Ryobi or whoever it was. They survived just fine...didn't they? ;D ;D

There is a whole lot about this. People who haven't worked in plants think of a plant like some set of numbers that can be replaced. Then they go home and water their "plants". It takes generations to build these. Some of the smaller, years ago, were sad enough. The larger incomprehesible. One hopes everyone got compensation and new job. These days every one is a direct stab in the gut when liquidated.
