July 24, 2010 12:35 PM EDT SUN VALLEY, Idaho (AP) — A police dog in the central Idaho resort town of Sun Valley is back on duty after serving a "suspension" for an unprovoked attack on a small schnauzer. Sun Valley Police Chief Cameron Daggett says the 5-year-old German shepherd named Dax took a few weeks off the job after the incident. The dog will receive more training to prevent a reoccurrence of what Daggett says was an unfortunate situation. Dax is a four-year veteran of the force. He is trained to find illegal drugs, missing people, and evidence at crime scenes. On June 26, authorities say Dax attacked a schnauzer named Max. Max's owner says the city is paying the $600 veterinarian bill. ___ Information from: Idaho Mountain Express, www.mtexpress.com

German Shepherd vs Schnauzer .... hummmmm .... interesting, very interesting .... this situation leads one to ask if the alleged attack was an "attack" or was it self-defense or reactionary after having been provoked by the Schnauzer? Does anyone know if the Sun Valley PD made any effort to investigate the situation and the alleged actors to establish the cause of the alleged incident or was the Shepherd summarily denied equal protection under the law and subjected to punishment without justification? Furthermore, it is far more probable that the Schnauzer instigated the alleged incident in which case all those in the "city" associated with paying the vet bill have committed fraud against the taxpayers.
I also see strong overtones of racial profiling going on here, why did the PD & "city" automatically assign guilt to Dax without just cause? Did Dax's partner witness the event and if so, what presentation of proof can he/she provide showing that the partner is qualified to assess the alleged events based upon complete and clear understanding of canine mannerism and language? If the language barrier exists between Dax and his partner, then there is no doubt that Dax has been unjustly accused and should seek full restitution and damages from the "city" and seek civil claims against the alleged "partner".
We all know that it's the "little guy" who always starts the bar fight and considering the fact that Schnauzers are known for their trademark "shady character" look and arrogant mannerism, a full investigation of the alleged incident would likely show that the so-called "attack" was in fact not an "attack" but rather a preemptive defensive move by Dax.
