It's pretty amazing at the amount of automation the RR industry uses. Most of the track is laid in very long lengths anymore too, joints are welded and the lengths run multiple cars specially built for carrying the rails. The bedding and tamping machines as shown in the video are impressive to watch in person.

I drove past a a stretch of new track from the roadbed up for a number of years. It is amazing all the equipment and time put into a new bed and track. I remember the pictures from the 1800's when they did track,whole different world today.
