Since Mark posted the poll on energy savings and I got stuck working this weekend without prior notice, I did some research today. First thing I found is that the Energy Star symbol is worthless because in a nutshell, all one need do is some pencil-whipping and cash transfer to get the "star", it's a total joke.
A little more searching and I happened to find that a particular LG refrigerator sits on the show floor with a big yellow energy guide tag stating it's energy use is just 547 Kwh/yr yet the actual testing of that refrigerator shows it uses 1591 Kwh/year, nearly three times that claimed. The energy guide on a GE hybrid water heater claims to only use 1856 Kwh/year but use tests show it can uses more than 3500 Kwh/year making it just a little more efficient than standard electric water heaters. The energy guide on a GE Profile side-by-side refrigerator claims 696 Kwh/year but in reality it's going to use more than 1950 Kwh/yr.
The DOE (Department of Energy) claims it doesn't have enough staff to handle the workload but the DOE's current standards don't even come close to replicating the use appliances will see in the typical household so what good will having more staff do if the current staff can't even do their job? I think the question to ask is how much energy and materials are being wasted on the DOE and the worthless energy guide tags? R.A.L.

This is nothing new, companies have been fudging the ratings all along and the DOE is as useless as most every other government agency! Don't forget, the DOE was created to end the oil dependency ... then again, the same "government experts" who pushed for the DOE also said I'd be ice fishing in Florida by the year 2000 ... then it was global warming but since the temperatures are going down, now it's "global climate change" ........ worthless - totally worthless!
